About a month ago I posted a request for nominations for best albums by Boston based bands and updated it here. I'm still getting comments and emails, so it is time for an update:
A music writer sent me this list:
Favorite Boston records:
Fat Day's "Burrega!"
The Magnetic Fields'"Distant Plastic Trees" (well, they were Bostonians then),
the early Fertile Virgin and High Risk Group singles
Sorry's "The Way It Is"
The Swirlies' remix album (which includes an SS Decontrol cover at the end!!)
The Pixies' "Doolittle"
Chris Cagle of Left Center Left submits a list of albums:
Pixies, Surfer Rosa
Modern Lovers, self-titled
Magnetic Fields, Wayward Bus (tie with Holiday)
Cars, self-titled
Helium, Pirate Prude
Breeders, Pod
Come, Eleven:Eleven
Drop Nineteens, Delaware (best American shoegaze, in my opinion)
Papas Fritas, self-titled
Evan Dando, Baby I'm Bored
I will add a song, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' "The Impression That I Get", which has strong historical connotations for me, having first appeared on Safe and Sound: A Benefit in Response to the Brookline Clinic Violence. And while the Bosstones' didn't write the song specifically for the project, the lyrics seem to fit the event perfectly.
Want to chime in? Send an email or leave a comment.

Morphine, Cure for Pain
Pixies, Doolittle
Throwing Muses, University
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Impression That I Get
