From the Boston Almanac for the Year 1846:
24 June 1845
"A great Masonic celebration took place at Charlestown, in commemoration of the erection of the first monument on Bunker Hill, in memory of Gen. Warren, by King Solomon's Lodge, and of the act of the institution in granting the land on which the present monument stands."
The Bunker Hill Monument is the first public obelisk erected in the United States.
