New England Rum was retailing at 35 cents a gallon in 1827. * * * Spiritualist mediums were holding a convention in Washington Hall in 1852.

All business suspended on this day in 1642. Everybody who was anybody was over at "Newetowne" (Cambridge) where the college was holding its first commencement. * * * A "Dreadful fate awaits those who travel by proposed steam railways," it was dispassionately predicted on this day in 1827 by a Stage Line publication.
